Because I love everything connected to swimming and the water, I’m a big Shark Tank fan. I was excited to see the episode with Anastasia Balyura of HeartPup and her dog, Trixie. She was there to present a dog carrier, or as she calls it, a “fashionable hands-free scarf/sling.”
This was a product right up my alley. It’s stylish and cuts down on my walking, so what’s not to like? It seemed like an interesting product until I heard the selling price of a whopping $138! I am almost fell off the couch. That’s too rich for me. The sharks got it right. The product can be easily copied and sold for a lot less. Those astronomical margins are only possible on a very small scale. The law student turned entrepreneur should have taken the offer of $50,000 for 40 percent of the company, and run out of the door with the investment commitment. I hope things work out for her, but I think she’ll regret not taking the deal.
In case I am completely wrong and someone buys one of these fashionable slings and wants to carry me around for a few hours, please drop me a line.
