At the start of every year, we like to reminisce and take a look back at some of our highlights from the past year. There’s always a lot to cover. After all, we’re Norfolk Terriers, and all by itself that keeps the highlights coming.
At least a few times a year, we get what you might call a haircut. For a Norfolk Terrier, it’s not really a cut at all. It’s a process of hand stripping where the hairs are ripped out. If that sounds painful and traumatic, good! Welcome to our world!
For hand stripping, it’s best to do it regularly so the hairs aren’t too long. And it requires more than a bit of skill to do it. We make a special trip to visit a nice woman who spends a couple of hours on each of us. If she starts stripping out too many hairs, we’re tempted to give her a nip but that never works. At this point, we’re regulars at this hair stripping ordeal so we just man up and take it like the tough dogs we are.
As you can see from the pic of before I got my haircut, I really should try to be more regular with this hand stripping thing. My coat grows like wildfire, and that means I spend more time getting stripped.
I’m not trying to be critical, but when you look at the before and after, it’s clear I got a buzz cut. Jaxon looks like he slipped out the back door and dodged the hours of pulling and plucking hairs. Is that fair?
I think I should get his biscuits for at least 1 week. I suffered through this hand stripping nightmare, and he sits there with this stone face look of someone who got off scot free.
